The 999 service is 70 years old in Scotland this year. In that time thousands of lives have been rescued by the emergency services.
Tragically, some of our heroes have given their lives to rescue those in danger.
Heroes of 999 celebrates the men and women who put their life on the line for others.
Heroes of 999 will be an annual event to honour those brave men and women who have answered countless thousands of emergency calls over the years.
In particular, we will be remembering Lockerbie, Piper Alpha, The Solway Harvester, Ibrox – and Cheapside Street fire where 19 firemen lost their lives in one the greatest disasters for the emergency services in Scotland.

IT’S BEEN 70 years since Scotland’s 999 service was launched - saving thousands of lives. And to mark the anniversary Scotland’s 999 heroes will be honoured at a star-studded bash on October 30th. The unsung heroes have risked thousands of lives over the years responding to emergency calls.
Tragically dozens more heroes have died trying to rescue those in danger.
